A couple from the UK with a passion for exploring the world, and enjoying a drink or two while we’re at it!
We want to share our travel experiences to help you plan your next trip, and let you know the best places to enjoy a cold one when you get there!
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Prague? Is it the fact that Prague has the only functioning medieval astronomical clock in Europe? The largest castle in the world? Or is it that Prague is the de-facto beer capital of the world? Yeah, we thought so!
What you might not know though, is that there are places in Prague where you can literally bathe in beer!
If you’re anything like us, you would probably be quite surprised, maybe a little confused, and definitely a bit intrigued if we told you that there are actually some health benefits to taking a beer bath, because when we found out about the Original Beer Spa, we felt the same.
What if we told you though, that while relaxing in a hot tub filled with vitamin rich beer and yeast that will do wonders for your skin, you also have your own taps of premium Krušovice light and dark lagers, from which you are free to pour yourself UNLIMITED drinks. I bet we have your attention now, don’t we?
This a unique, fun experience and even if you’re not particularly a beer lover, it’s something you HAVE to try. It was the highlight of our two days in Prague over New Year’s Eve 2020 and we recommend you add it straight to your Prague itinerary.
About Original Beer Spa
You won’t be able to find yourself a massage, mud mask or manicure at Original Beer Spa. What you will find instead are Oak barrel jacuzzies filled with a hydrating, immune boosting mixture of yeast, hops & beer, relaxing traditional straw beds, hop saunas (depending on which spa you visit) and unlimited Czech lager. It’s not the traditional pampering experience you might be used to, but we guarantee you’ll leave far more relaxed (drunk!) than any other spa you’ve visited before.
The concept of a beer spa isn’t new and apparently dates back over 2000 years! Yeast has been used in medicine since medieval times and its health benefits are surprisingly well known. We aren’t saying that powering through ten pints in an hour is going to get you in fighting shape, but you might be interested to know that there are several surprising benefits to visiting a beer spa.
Brewer’s yeast is an essential ingredient in beer, and it’s also why the spa treatment is so beneficial. It’s great for you skin, providing overall hydration and plenty of vitamin B & Iron. You might not think you will step out of a beer bath with your skin feeling rejuvenated and smooth, but our minds were blown!
It also helps to reduce inflammation of the liver (obviously not with unlimited drinks flowing through it, but the thought was there) and promote a boost in digestion and metabolism. This is all alongside the obvious mental and physical relaxation you get from chilling in a hot tub with unlimited beer at your disposal!
Original Beer Spa have two locations in the centre of Prague. The spa at Rybná 3 is located right in the heart of the old town, just a 6-minute walk from Old Town Square, and the spa at 9 Žitná is just on the border of the old and new towns, just a 7-minute walk from Wenceslas Square.
Prices for Original Beer Spa are based on the number of people in the booking, the type of room you want to hire, and the number of tubs you want to use. The prices listed are for one hour’s hire of the room, with each additional hour at a 15% discount. The rooms generally have two tubs, but don’t worry! If you only hire one tub you will still have private use of the room, so nobody else will be joining you.
A one-hour Original Beer Spa experience for two people sharing a tub is around €117.00, and €144.00 for a tub each.
The price of the upgraded sauna room in the Žitná spa is €148.00 for two people sharing a tub, and €174.00 for a tub each.

What to Expect
For our Original Beer Spa experience, we went with the standard one-hour package at the Rybná spa, with one tub for the two of us.
After arriving at the spa, one of the hosting staff takes you through into the beer tub room to give a brief introduction, and to hand you some robes & slippers to change into. There is a shower area and toilet in each of the rooms so don’t worry, you don’t need to strip down to your swimwear in reception!
Next, it’s time to mix your beer bath before you ‘hop’ in. The host will grab three buckets, one empty, the other two filled with yeast and ground up hops. Into the empty bucket goes a spoon of each of the yeast and hops, which is then topped up with Krušovice. The brew goes straight into the tub and on go the bubbles!
Now, to say it’s a ‘beer bath’ isn’t exactly true, as it’s not ‘really’ filled with beer. It’s actually just water, with the mixture of yeast and hops added in. So technically, you are still bathing in beer (yeast, hops and water are the main ingredients in beer, duh), just not an entire tub’s worth.
After the bath tub is mixed up, the host will start a timer, and then begins your half an hour of beer tub relaxation, so fill up those tankards, grab a slice of beer bread and enjoy!
After around half an hour, the bubbles will stop. You can still just chill in the tub, but without the jacuzzi it’s not quite the same. So, ‘hop’ out (sorry), top up your glass, and head over to the traditional straw bed (or sauna depending on the room type you booked) to dry off and unwind for a bit longer. It might not look like it, but the bed is surprisingly comfy!
Once your remaining time is up just get dressed and head on out, but make sure to make the most of your unlimited beers with one last swift one! If you really felt the benefits of the spa and want to recreate the same experience at home, please don’t fill up your bath with cans of Stella or Carling, it’s not the same. Instead, grab some beer cosmetics on your way out at reception. Choose from shower gel, shampoo, soap or face masks to give yourself a DIY beer spa pamper session!
- Book well in advance! It’s hardly surprising that the beer spa is a very popular tourist activity. Make sure you don’t miss out and book up as soon as possible. Luckily, there are several slots throughout the day so you’re pretty likely to be able to get what you want.
- Be aware if you have any allergies! This is an important one. People with allergies to proteins, yeast and hops should consult with a doctor prior to booking the beer spa, as it might not be too good for you!
- Bring your swimwear! This one should be a given but remember to bring your swimwear with you. We would recommend wearing it under your clothes before you arrive at the spa, so you get more tub time without having to mess around getting changed! Also, remember to bring a bag with you to carry your wet gear. You might notice that your swimwear has some slight staining from the hot tub when you step out. Don’t worry, this does wash off, but we still wouldn’t recommend wearing your best white bikini or speedos!
- Don’t shower after your treatment! This one might seem a bit odd, but there is some method to this madness. The effects of the beer spa will keep your skin hydrated and smooth for hours after you leave, so it’s best not to shower straight away otherwise you will lose all the benefits. You don’t even have to worry about smelling like beer either, as the mixture of hops and brewer's yeast surprisingly doesn’t really smell of much!
If this hasn't convinced you why you need to try a beer spa when visiting Prague, we don't know what will! Just trust us, give this one a go and you won't be disappointed!
